Position Overview
Connecticut Children’s is seeking a skilled individual to join our Sleep Study Preparation and Set-up team. This role involves verifying patient histories, following protocols, preparing and setting up sleep studies, and performing various tests under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Review patient history and verify medical orders.
- Follow Sleep Center protocols and prepare for sleep studies.
- Verify patient identification, collect documents, and obtain consent.
- Explain the procedure and orient patients for in-center or out-of-center sleep testing.
- Select and calibrate appropriate equipment for testing.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards.
- Position patients and monitor baseline values during testing.
- Perform physiological calibrations and adjust signals as needed.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events.
- Assist with interventions and ensure patient safety.
- Identify and correct artifacts in sleep study data.
- Complete data collection and ensure integrity of collected data.
- Recognize and respond to sleep vs. wake states and clinical events.
- Provide age-specific care and treatment for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients.
- Prepare and download data from portable monitoring equipment.
- Perform patient education and instruction for out-of-center sleep testing.
- Adhere to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices.
- Identify and address artifact, inadequate signals, and study failures.
- Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Healthcare and/or Pediatric experience preferred.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures related to functional units.
- Attention to detail, strong communication, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to multi-task, handle a fast-paced environment, and work in a team setting.
- CPR or BLS Healthcare certification within 1 month of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification within 3 years of hire.
- Computer skills appropriate for the position.

Education and Certifications
- Required: CPR or BLS Healthcare certification within 1 month of hire and maintained thereafter.
