Description
Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital is seeking a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist to join our team.
Position Purpose
Counsels patients on the use of PAP therapy, calibrates machines, monitors patients during testing, and scores polygraphic records.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Gathers materials and sets up necessary equipment for the test.
- Discusses test procedure with patient and answers any questions.
- Instructs patient on the use of PAP therapy.
- Prepares patient for test by applying appropriate electrodes and ancillary equipment to patient utilizing AASM standards.
- Calibrates machines according to standard procedures and recalibrates as needed.
- Maintains adequate stock levels of equipment and supplies.
- May collect urine samples for laboratory analysis.
- Aid in training new personnel in polysomnography techniques.
- Assist with answering the phone and scheduling patients for test procedures.
- Maintain current BLS/CPR and sleep certifications.
- Acquire 10 CEC's per year for sleep center accreditation.
- May assist with interviews for new hire employees.
- Aid in scoring training and comparisons.
- Aid in monitoring and evaluating technical quality of procedures performed in the Sleep Center.
- Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships.
- Approach conflict in a constructive manner.
- Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
- Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health.
- Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients and other departmental personnel.
- Analytical skills necessary to observe and evaluate patients during testing and treatments.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
- Ability to walk and stand for approximately 25% of work time and to lift, pull, push and carry portable equipment for approximately 25% of work time.

Required Education, Experience, and Certification/Licensure
- Requires high school diploma or GED.
- Twelve to eighteen months of related experience preferred.
- Requires board certification from the BRPT or ABSM.
- Colleagues that are not registered or are CRPSGTs at the time of hire are required to successfully pass the board examination within the first 18 months of the date of hire.
