About the Role

The Skills Trainer provides support, skill training, and one-on-one supervision to clients as outlined in the treatment plan. This role maintains case records and documentation per agency policies and coordinates facility operations and client needs with other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support, supervision, activities, and skills training individually and/or in group settings as outlined in the treatment plan, including coping skills, self-care, social interaction, illness management, crisis management, daily living activities, community awareness, and transitional support.
  • Participates as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, attending team meetings, community partner meetings, and case staffing as assigned.
  • Conducts in-home skills training visits to assist clients with developing independent living skills.
  • Assists in preparing materials for the day treatment process, such as preparing copies/packets, setting up group rooms, and cleaning/organizing workspace.
  • Cleans program facilities/areas as needed or assigned.
  • Provides services within the detoxification process of the Alcohol Recovery Center (ARC), including non-medical monitoring, medication monitoring, basic risk assessment, and immediate referral to clinical staff as needed.
  • Ensures clients' life/medical safety, behavioral control, and crisis prevention within the scope of practice, contacting supervisors or emergency services when necessary.
  • Coordinates daily facility operations, including monitoring, walkthroughs, and room searches of the facility and clients according to program needs.
  • Transports clients to access services and appointments as authorized by program needs and treatment plan.
  • Administers drug and alcohol screens/tests as needed and authorized by clinical staff.
  • Utilizes assessments with clients as outlined in the program (e.g., DLA-20, MIS, ORS/SRS, PHQ 9, GAD 7, LOCUS, SOWS, or CIWA).
  • Maintains case records and other documentation as outlined in agency policies.
  • Complies with all Volunteers of America Northern Rockies policies and procedures for individual programs.
  • Participates in supervision, staff meetings, and training as required.
  • Maintains productivity/billable hour expectations as determined by leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of training and/or experience in adult education, populations with learning disabilities, or severe mental illness.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain the following certifications within the first 30 days of employment:
    • CPR / First Aid
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • MANDT

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with people experiencing mental illness and/or substance use problems.
  • Experience working with people who are actively experiencing a crisis.
  • Experience working with people in a residential service environment.
  • 3-5 years of training and/or experience in adult education, populations with learning disabilities, or severe mental illness.

Skills

  • Crisis management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software: Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines under pressure.

Work Environment

This job operates in a residential facility environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones. The physical demands include regular talking or hearing, close vision, and the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Some travel is required for this position.
