The ADON is a key nursing leader responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) with the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nursing services throughout the facility. This position provides daily clinical leadership while supporting nursing operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, employee development, quality improvement, and resident-centered care. The ADON should be a highly visible and engaged leader who is comfortable working directly with nursing staff, residents, families, providers, and members of the interdisciplinary team. The position requires a balance of clinical expertise, leadership, accountability, problem-solving, and staff development. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Nursing Operations Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily management and oversight of nursing servicesProvide visible clinical leadership throughout the facility and regularly round on nursing unitsMonitor resident care and nursing practices to ensure established standards of care are maintainedSupport consistent nursing operations across shifts, units, weekends, and changing resident needsServe as a clinical resource for RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing personnelAssist nursing staff with complex resident-care situations and changes in conditionPromote timely communication with physicians/providers, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team membersParticipate in admissions, transfers, discharges, and significant changes in condition as appropriateAssist with emergency response and clinical decision-making when necessaryAssume nursing leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing as assigned Staffing & Workforce Management Assist with evaluating nursing staffing levels based on resident census, acuity, and facility needsWork collaboratively with nursing leadership and scheduling personnel to maintain appropriate coverageIdentify staffing gaps and assist with developing timely solutionsSupport efforts to minimize unnecessary overtime and agency utilization while maintaining appropriate resident careAssist with interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and retaining nursing employeesParticipate in nursing orientation and ensure new employees receive appropriate clinical supportProvide coaching, counseling, and performance feedback to nursing staffAssist with attendance, performance, and accountability concerns in collaboration with the DON and Human ResourcesPromote employee engagement, teamwork, accountability, and retention within the nursing department Clinical Quality & Resident Outcomes Monitor resident outcomes and identify opportunities for clinical improvementReview changes in condition, hospital transfers, falls, wounds, infections, weight changes, medication concerns, and other clinical indicators as appropriateAssist with identifying residents at increased risk and ensure appropriate interventions are implementedParticipate in clinical meetings and resident risk reviewsAssist with root-cause analysis and development of corrective interventions following adverse outcomesMonitor implementation and effectiveness of resident care plansPromote evidence-based clinical practices and resident-centered careWork collaboratively with nursing, therapy, dietary, social services, MDS, pharmacy, and medical providers to improve resident outcomes Documentation & Clinical Auditing Conduct routine clinical audits to evaluate documentation accuracy, completeness, and complianceReview nursing documentation, medication and treatment records, physician/provider orders, assessments, and care-related records as assignedIdentify documentation deficiencies and provide timely education and follow-upAssist with ensuring physician/provider orders are appropriately implemented and followedMonitor completion of required nursing assessments and documentationSupport accurate and timely communication of resident information across the interdisciplinary teamAssist with corrective action plans when documentation or clinical practice concerns are identified Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness Assist the Director of Nursing with maintaining ongoing survey readinessSupport nursing practices consistent with applicable federal, state, and facility requirementsParticipate in facility rounds and identify potential clinical or regulatory concernsAssist with preparation for regulatory surveys and other external reviewsParticipate in survey processes and assist with responding to identified concernsSupport implementation and monitoring of plans of correction when applicableEnsure nursing staff understand and consistently follow facility policies, procedures, and clinical expectationsPromote resident rights, dignity, privacy, safety, and freedom from abuse, neglect, and exploitation Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement Participate actively in the facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programReview clinical trends and performance indicators with nursing and facility leadershipAssist with developing measurable improvement plans when opportunities are identifiedMonitor the effectiveness and sustainability of corrective actionsParticipate in facility quality, risk-management, and clinical meetings as assignedHelp translate identified quality concerns into education and operational improvements for frontline nursing staff Staff Education & Development Identify nursing education and competency needsCollaborate with nursing leadership and Staff Development to provide education and trainingProvide hands-on coaching and mentorship to nursing staffAssist with competency evaluations and clinical skills validationSupport new graduate nurses and employees transitioning into skilled nursingPromote continuing education and professional choice, dignity, independence, and person-centered care Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursingCurrent Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico in good standingCurrent CPR/BLS certification preferredPrevious skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or post-acute nursing experience strongly preferredPrevious nursing leadership, supervisory, Charge Nurse, Unit Manager, or ADON experience preferredStrong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skillsKnowledge of skilled nursing clinical operations and regulatory expectationsStrong leadership, coaching, and employee-development abilitiesAbility to address performance and accountability concerns professionally and consistentlyStrong organizational and time-management
