Skilled Maintenance (2nd Shift)

About the Role

This entry-level position involves working on the skilled maintenance team while learning and applying knowledge in various skilled maintenance fields such as construction, painting, electrical, masonry, plumbing, and carpentry. The role supports the Director of Facilities in resolving institutional operational and safety concerns, maintaining the institution in a safe and operational condition for students, faculty, staff, and the public. The position also provides guidance to construction workers and maintains preventive maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with site personnel, other trades, and subcontractors to schedule work orders and activities, identify project specifications, estimate costs, and establish delivery dates for equipment and supplies.
• Handle confidential and non-routine information while maintaining open communication among team members to build trust and respect.
• Coordinate with administration and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
• Guide other maintenance workers in performing skilled crafts to support their development in specific trade skills.
• Inspect facilities, systems, and components to ensure safety, cleanliness, and identify necessary repairs.
• Install a variety of complex items and system components, such as cabinetry, doors, windows, playground equipment, audiovisual equipment, and facility components.
• Maintain tools and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
• Perform facility and equipment repair and maintenance activities within areas of trade expertise (e.g., electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, painting).
• Prepare and maintain documentation such as work orders, repair records, purchase orders, and requisitions.
• Procure equipment and supplies in collaboration with vendors to maintain inventory and ensure availability.
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and maintain the educational environment.
• Test and troubleshoot various items dependent on trade expertise (e.g., thermocouples, motors, fire alarms, plumbing systems).
• Be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
• Contribute to the institution’s mission by assisting with fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction.
• Represent LECOM by actively engaging in the community, including serving on boards and participating in community fundraisers.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Knowledge of materials, tools, methods, and equipment used in building trades (e.g., audiovisual, electrical, plumbing, HVAC); principles of supervision; preparing estimates; working with plans and specifications; safety practices and procedures.
