Skilled Craft Specialist

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED, plus two (2) years of experience in building trades or a comparable amount of training in a vocational school with emphasis on building trades and construction.
• Must have a valid Driver’s license and be able to be on call as needed.

Physical Requirements; Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics

• Knowledge of service manuals and other documentation for their respective crafts and related equipment;
• Usage and operation test equipment and tools;
• Knowledge of relevant Federal, State and County codes and regulations relating to building maintenance and workplace safety;
• Knowledge of Sheriff’s Office geography, facilities and work sites;
• Knowledge of plumbing skills required to repair toilets, drain and water lines;
• Knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, hazards and safety precautions associated with the trades;
• Knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials;
• Skills in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, Sheriff’s Office Policies and Procedures;
• Skills in the use and operation of a variety of tools and machinery associated with the trades, service manuals, engineering specifications and drawings;
• Skills in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, other County departments and contractors;
• Skills in the performance of craft work and techniques;
• Skills in effective communication in both oral and written form and following oral and written instructions;
• Skills in the troubleshooting and repair of all issues that may arise with HCSO facilities and equipment;
• Skills in planning, organizing and successfully completing multiple, unrelated simultaneous projects;
• Skills in interpreting technical documents, drawing, blueprints, etc.
