About the role
A Parole/Probation Officer is responsible for a variety of job functions related to felony offenders and protection of the public. These responsibilities will include the preparation of background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court which will be utilized to determine sentences; supervision of offenders placed on community supervision through Court ordered probation or parole from a state correctional facility. Employees will follow policy, procedures, work statements, FOA Memoranda, Director Office Memorandums (DOM) and Guiding Principles of the Department of Corrections and will be under direct supervision of a qualified Field Agent in order to meet the goals of the Department.
Responsibilities
- Prepare background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court
- Determine sentences based on background reports
- Supervise offenders placed on community supervision through Court ordered probation or parole
- Follow policy, procedures, work statements, FOA Memoranda, Director Office Memorandums (DOM), and Guiding Principles of the Department of Corrections
- Undergo specialized training in resources available to justice-involved veteran caseloads
- Assist with investigating criminal activity, supervision violations, interviewing offenders, victims, and witnesses
- Evaluate offenders' progress toward supervision objectives and offenders' families in support of mutual goals
Requirements
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, education psychology, family relations, human services, or theology
- Valid driver's license and availability of an automobile for business
Qualifications
- Completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation, is required before employment
Skills
- Knowledge of criminal justice and correctional administration
- Ability to prepare and analyze background reports
- Proficiency in supervising offenders on community supervision
- Specialized knowledge of resources for justice-involved veteran caseloads
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to investigate criminal activity, supervise offenders, and evaluate progress

Pay
The pay range for this position is $40,000 - $50,000 annually.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend hours required.
