Responsibilities

• Assist Ski Patrol Manager in maintaining a safe skiing and biking environment by completing daily assignments and supervising patrollers
• Conduct staff and safety meetings, assist with scheduling, provide care to those injured or in need of aid
• Provide training opportunities and enforce policies and procedures
• Supervise daily patrol operations by completing assignments and working with staff and other departments
• Conduct daily staff meetings and weekly safety meetings
• Involve in weekly scheduling of patrollers and assign daily duties
• Manage inventory of patrol equipment
• Create Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs) to ensure a safe skiing/riding/biking environment
• Provide basic life support and quality care to guests with injuries, including serious or life-threatening conditions
• Respond to critical incidents for guests and employees
• Notify proper medical personnel for advanced life support and transport to medical facilities
• Provide directions and maps to injured guests and family members
• Assist local EMS agencies as mutual aid care providers
• Complete educational classes to become a nationally recognized instructor
• Assist with candidate patroller on-hill training and provide Outdoor Emergency Care, Ski, and Toboggan training
• Inform guests of the Skier Responsibility Act and enforce the Skier Responsibility Code
• Inspect assigned slopes by skiing, riding, or snowmobile prior to morning opening
• Prepare trails before opening by marking hazards with signs, ropes, and bamboo poles
• Check hydrants, lift towers, and other man-made objects for proper marking
• Responsible for disciplinary actions toward patrollers following Snowshoe disciplinary policy
• Delegate chores in order of importance and raise, turn, or dig out skier awareness devices
• Communicate with groomers and snowmakers regarding trail opening/closing decisions
• Pack snow with skis/boards and shovel to make trail passage possible
• Provide continual operation checks on skier transport systems
• Report safety hazards, damage, or excessive wear on aerial lifts and ground tows
• Scan slopes for hazards, obstacles, or areas of concern and remedy or close as needed
• Perform efficient and complete closing of open trails via daily sweep at the end of the day
• Familiarize with Snowshoe Weather Hold Policy and interpret weather radar for potential inclement weather
• Transport guests via company vehicles during inclement weather
• Arrange transport for guests at the end of the ski day back to their desired location
• Offer assistance, advice, and directions to guests throughout the shift
• Maintain patrol dispatch for timely first-aid and care for injured guests
• Receive and dispatch calls via telephone/radio, and record all incidents in paper and computer database
• Document lift emergencies, weather holds, trail openings/closings, lost children, and daily vehicle/snowmobile check-offs
• Notify appropriate departments for premise, vehicle, and maintenance needs
• Secure and lock up patrol facilities at the end of shifts
• Assign housekeeping duties for patrol facility and vehicles, including vacuuming and disinfecting
• Assign patrollers to remove leaning or fallen trees and woody debris using handsaws/chainsaws
• Coordinate with bike patrol/bike park manager for trail construction, bridge building, and trail maintenance
• Arrange transportation for injured guests via ambulance or van, and assist with communication to families/friends/medical facilities
• Communicate directions for assisting EMS agencies to patient transfer areas
• Maintain professional skiing/riding standards at the National Ski Patrol System's senior level
• Maintain current OEC certification through annual refresher and dues payment
• Assist lift attendants and mountain guides at lift terminals by checking tickets and regulating riders
• Assist with guest service problems using the Snowshoe Cares program
• Perform and assist with incident investigations as requested by management
• Perform emergency evacuation of ski lifts using NSAA techniques and follow area management's lift evacuation plan
• Involve in lift evacuation training and maintain familiarity with snowmaking equipment
• Contribute to team effort by assisting other departments as needed
• Handle guest complaints with courtesy and compassion, making final decisions on resolution actions
• Supervise incident investigations and meet with risk manager to review trends and define investigation parameters
• Serve as Evacuation Team Leader, maintaining rope logs, evacuation plans, and equipment inspection records
• Drive company vehicles, requiring a valid driver's license and passing the Snowshoe Driving Program

Requirements

• Job-specific background check
• Maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card
• Current OEC instructor credentials
• Complete snowmobile and/or ATV (UTV) training course and be an approved driver on the Snowshoe Driving Program
• Annual snowmobile and ATV (UTV) training refresher
• Valid driver's license to be considered for the Snowshoe Driving Program
• High School Diploma or GED
• Outdoor Emergency Care Certificate
• Senior Level Ski Patrol certificate
• 5+ years of Ski Patrol experience
• Advanced/Expert level skier or snowboarder
• Pay annual dues to the National Ski Patrol to maintain Outdoor Emergency Care certificate
• Pay applicable fees for maintaining First Responder or EMT license and CPR refresher class
