About the role

Under the direction of the Safety Services Manager, Gunstock Patrollers help promote and maintain the on-mountain safety of Gunstock's skiing and snowboarding guests. Patrollers are committed to providing quality, empathetic care for injured or ill guests and/or employees.

  • Attend to patient evaluation, triage, and provide appropriate first aid.
  • Safely transport injured guests and/or employees from the mountain to First Aid Base.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of lift evacuation plans and snowmobile operations.
  • Perform on-mountain risk management duties such as identifying and marking potential skiing/riding hazards, set-up and remove fencing, rope lines, and signage as needed.

Position is scheduled to start in early December. Must be available to work weekends, nights, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care Technician (OEC) with current CPR (BLS) certification, OR a current National Registry EMT-Basic certification with a current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Additional medical or ski area experience helpful.
  • Ability to ski/snowboard at an advanced to expert level up to 6 hours/day on all terrain in variable weather conditions and while transporting up to 50 lbs.

Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 30% of the time.
  • Constantly able to operate radio controls, hand tools, power tools, vehicles, machinery, and equipment used for mountain patrol and emergency response procedures.
  • Frequently required to ski/ride in a controlled manner while pulling a rescue sled up to 200 lbs.
  • Frequently required to move about the mountain and resort to access injured guests and/or employees.
  • Constantly positions self to administer first aid or emergency services to injured guests and/or employees.
  • Required to move equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 25 lbs regularly, up to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Constantly required to visually inspect, detect, and assess patients, work areas, medical supplies, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
