About the role

The Site Security Manager (SSM) serves as the day-to-day manager of a site security team that includes administrative officers, responders, and other security personnel at a client’s datacenter. The SSM is responsible for building a cohesive and high-performing team. Reporting directly to the Campus Security Manager (CSM), the SSM works alongside other security team managers to ensure a safe and secure environment. Additional responsibilities include client service, problem resolution, service enhancement, Security Operations Center (SOC) systems maintenance, audit compliance, system monitoring, log maintenance, and access rights maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage site security personnel, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and development at the datacenter.
  • Coach security personnel and carry out disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
  • Ensure all responders and control room supervisors adhere to policies and standard operating procedures; act as responder or supervisor during high-activity periods or staff absences.
  • Ensure site health and key performance indicator goals are met or exceeded; collaborate with the CSM to enhance security team effectiveness.
  • Conduct recalling audits and prepare/submit critical and confidential information to the client management team.
  • Oversee site security systems to ensure safe and compliant facility operation; maintain and troubleshoot on-site security technology.
  • Assist with site equipment inspections and audit compliance; maintain required security documentation with accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for datacenter management and security personnel when the CSM is unavailable.
  • Identify security shortfalls and suggest improvements for the security program.
  • Evaluate and escalate potential safety issues within the facility.
  • Follow safe work practices and company policies related to job safety; notify supervisor of unsafe working conditions.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by management and keep management informed of major accomplishments, issues, and concerns.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a reliable means of communication (e.g., cell phone) and transportation (public or private).
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent secondary education.
  • Must be willing to participate in the company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.
  • Associate degree in a relevant field and 4+ years of related experience in the security industry or business management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Management experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in a datacenter environment (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of security technologies, including CCTV, access control systems, incident management software, and video surveillance software.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during emergencies or crises.
  • Must meet and maintain licensing requirements for security officers as applicable to local, county, and state laws.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements for specific skills, certifications, and authorizations for assigned accounts.

Skills

  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures for 24-hour facilities.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices, including assigning work, training, and discipline.
  • Ability to learn and operate a variety of security and safety devices.
  • Advanced computer skills, including data entry and analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for preparing materials and presenting information.
  • Ability to conduct presentations and facilitate group meetings (in-person and online).
  • Leadership skills, including planning, organizing, delegating, problem-solving, training, coaching, and disciplining staff effectively.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to interact effectively at all levels across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to take initiative, achieve results, and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.

Working Conditions

  • Requires maintaining composure when dealing with authorities, executives, clients, staff, and the public, occasionally under urgent or high-pressure conditions.
  • May be exposed to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals in unauthorized areas.
  • May require working overtime without advance notice.
  • Frequent use of keyboard, computer, and operating controls, including long periods of data entry and analysis.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for long periods or up to 12 miles of distance; may involve climbing stairs, inclines, or uneven terrain.
  • Physical tasks may include walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Ability to carry a 2.5-pound device during the entire shift.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather or require the use of protective gear.
  • Handling and exposure to sensitive and confidential information.
  • Regular talking and hearing; may require operating a vehicle.
  • Occasional physical activity, including lifting/moving up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
