About the role
We are seeking a Site Safety Manager to provide support to the project management team, superintendents, foremen, and workers. This position coordinates the day-to-day safety requirements of the assigned project.
Essential Functions
- Provide support to the project by maintaining a visible presence to the field performing independent site walks and identifying safety issues.
- Provide oversight to multiple construction projects simultaneously.
- Communicate (verbal and/or written) with Safety Director and Client Representatives to ensure they are informed of safety matters at the job sites.
- Utilize OSHA 1926 and other applicable regulations.
- Ensure general contractors comply with all safety rules and procedures.
- Attend project meetings and address safety issues with staff.
- Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately.
- Advise contractor and supervisor of non-compliance issues, including preparing recommendations based on findings.
- Participate and assist the Superintendent and foreman in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions where necessary.
- Host weekly safety talks with employees on the job site.
- Communicate, coach, and assist the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.
- Initiate follow-up on issues to ensure compliance.
- Recommend programs, policies, and processes to manage construction safety.
- Ensure new hires are orientated to the Cooper safety program, and all required documentation is completed accurately and forwarded to the Safety Director.
- Teach safety-related classes and perform accident investigations; investigate near-misses.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in a related field.
- 5 to 10 years construction safety experience.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
- OSHA 510 and/or 500 a plus.
- OSHA 30 hours.
- Must Possess a valid state drivers license.
- Bi-lingual preferred.
- Able to read, analyze and interpret contract documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Able to speak effectively before groups of clients, subcontractors, or employees of the organization.
- Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills.
- Able to crawl, climb over obstacles, walk on uneven surfaces, and able to climb ladders without assistance.
- Able to enter confined spaces or work on high-elevation task locations.
Skills / Knowledge
- Excellent working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
