Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
We are seeking a Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to implement, monitor, and enforce the project-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP) for environmental remediation activities in Byram Township, NJ. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, USACE EM 385-1-1, and applicable federal, state, and local environmental and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily safety inspections and lead safety briefings and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) reviews.
- Oversee air monitoring and exposure assessments for hazardous substances.
- Verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safety protocols.
- Maintain site safety documentation and investigate incidents to implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to identify hazards and implement controls.
- Exercise Stop Work authority for unsafe conditions.
- Promote a proactive safety culture to protect workers, the public, and the environment during remediation and construction.
Requirements
- 5 years of construction or remediation safety experience, including 1 year on inactive hazardous waste sites.
- Certifications: 40-Hour HazWOpER, 8-Hour HazWOpER Supervisor, 40-hour EM385-1-1, 30-Hour OSHA.
- Experience with USACE, USEPA, Department of Defense, or similar agencies.
- Ability to train and present safety programs to team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Occupational Safety.
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) credentials: CHST, OHST, ASP, or CSP.
- Institute of Hazardous Material Management (IHMM®) CSHM certification.
- American Board of Industrial Hygiene (BGC/ABIH) CIH certification.

Pay
$115K - $130K annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
