About the Role

The Site Engineer I is a contributing member of the site-level Data Center Operations team, reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering Operations. This role involves working with mission-critical infrastructure, including Generators, UPS Systems, HVAC Systems, Fire/Life Safety Systems, BMS Systems, and CMMS systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in either electrical or mechanical work and be competent in the non-expertise area.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to daily site operations, including creation and modification of site operating procedures.
  • Assist in creating change management tickets and timely incident reporting.
  • Perform site maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure high availability of Digital Realty’s data center operations.
  • Gain a complete understanding of facility layout, MEP systems, equipment nomenclature, and site-specific system one-lines.
  • Understand and interpret facility drawings, equipment specifications, sequence of operations (SOO’s), standard operating procedures (SOP’s), and emergency operating procedures (EOP’s).
  • Ensure compliance with customer SLAs and engineering-specific lease obligations critical to data center operations.
  • Master facility top 20 EOP’s and BMS alarm functionality, including alarm escalation/acknowledgement and data/trend extraction.
  • Follow DLR event management, event escalation, and incident reporting procedures.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, edit, implement, and close change management work orders.
  • Create, edit, resolve, and close incident reports following site incidents.
  • Supervise construction activity and installations as required.
  • Execute site-specific change management processes, including creating Method of Procedures (MOPs) for low-risk preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot site mechanical and electrical systems effectively.
  • Respond to unplanned events without immediate supervision.
  • Conduct efficient rounds/inspections and detect anomalies during those rounds.
  • Develop or improve SOPs for site-specific equipment.
  • Understand local customers' business and data center operations.
  • Support accreditation initiatives such as SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001, etc.
  • Complete DLR Critical Awareness Training.
  • Maintain and operate all mission-critical equipment and systems to achieve 100% uptime and compliance with customer SLAs.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in mission-critical facilities operating/engineering or equivalent equipment experience (UPS, HVAC, generators, fire/life safety systems).
  • Hands-on electrical or mechanical skill and competence in the non-expertise area.
  • Strong knowledge of various UPS Systems and architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of various cooling systems and architectures.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure redundancy configurations and their risks (N+1, 2N, ATS/STS, Failover Scenarios).
  • Strong knowledge of energy efficiency principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively, both verbally and in writing, to sensitive issues and complex inquiries.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and familiarity with Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, or AutoCAD.
  • Basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes.
  • Strong understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and power metering systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and handle up to 50 pounds.
  • Bend, stoop, and stretch as required for placement and retrieval of network devices, materials, or equipment.
  • Work under a raised data center floor.
  • Climb ladders (up to 16 feet) to reach plenum spaces.

Pay

Compensation range: $37.50 - $41 per hour.
