Specific Responsibilities
- Aids in the completion of paperwork and data entry for enrollment, health, and other Head Start Performance Standards and local licensing regulations.
- Maintains records pertinent to the position such as a community resource list, child data, childcare licensing paperwork, and coordinates with the Mobility Coach to organize parent engagement events/activities.
- Organizes monthly center meetings with the Assistant Director of Child Development Services and uploads records to ChildPlus.
- Assists in implementing various components of the program, including enrollment, medical, dental, and mental health services.
- Collaborates with parents to promote children's health and wellbeing through medical, oral, nutrition, mental health, and education support services.
- Provides classroom coverage and breaks as needed and assists in training new staff.
- Supports teaching staff in implementing positive behavior strategies, curriculum, and effective teaching practices.
- Coordinates with the Mobility Coach to conduct and enter child health and development screenings, as needed.
- Takes inventory and procures supplies for the center and manages all center equipment.
- Initiates purchase orders for classroom supplies, center materials, equipment, and coordinates with the Assistant Director of Child Development Services, Mobility Coach, and Head Start management team.
- Supports the implementation of high-quality nutrition, education, mental health/disability, social services/parent involvement, and health services to help children reach their full potential.
- Communicates and documents information shared with parents and other professionals in written and oral form.
- Generates non-Federal (in-kind) match for Head Start and encourages, trains, and supports parent and community volunteers.
- Immediately reports all accidents/incidents/emergencies to the Assistant Director of Child Development Services.
- Maintains center health and safety standards and submits work orders for building maintenance issues in ChildPlus.
- Coordinates with the Assistant Director of Child Development Services, Mobility Coach, and Head Start management team to ensure full implementation of high-quality services.
- Conducts and maintains records for safety drills and immediately reports all issues to the Assistant Director of Child Development Services.
- Offers technical assistance to the parent committee and conducts parent meetings each month.
- Assists in serving meals to the children and eats with the children when needed.
- Participates in all training sessions and professional development.
- Assists in recruiting center participants and informs parents of center events/calendars, changes, closures, parent handbooks, hours of operation, etc.
- Ensures adherence to Head Start Program Performance Standards regarding child attendance and maintains a direct line of communication with center staff and families.
- Acts as a liaison between the Assistant Director of Child Development Services and frontline staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of an associate degree in ECE or related field with three years of experience in childcare or a preschool setting.
- Must comply with background check requirements outlined by the Office of Head Start and Kentucky childcare licensing.
- Preference is given to current staff, a Head Start parent, or regular volunteer.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- An understanding of the community and its resources is desirable.
- Initial physical exam including a negative TB skin test; TB skin test and physical exam as required thereafter.
- Must not have been convicted of a sex crime, child abuse and/or neglect.
- A minimum of 15 additional hours of training within three months of employment.
