Job Description The Simulated Patient Program Coordinator is responsible for the comprehensive management of the Simulated Patient (SP) Program and provides logistic and operational support for simulation events. This role recruits, trains, and manages individuals from the local community —who portray clinical scenarios, enabling medical students to practice essential interviewing, physical examination, and communication skills. The coordinator serves as the primary liaison among faculty, staff, learners, and SPs to ensure simulation activities are realistic, standardized, and directly aligned with educational objectives. As the lead SP trainer, this role oversees case portrayal accuracy, inter-rater reliability, and program operations—including budget tracking, administrative documentation, and SP compensation processes—in full alignment with ASPE Standards of Best Practice (SOBP) and International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice. Specific Responsibilities Administration and Operations Oversee recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of a diverse SP pool to support varied curricular and assessment needs across programs.Coordinate SP participation for training sessions, rehearsals, OSCEs, and live simulation-based educational activities.Supports and assists the medical director in the training and evaluation of the clinical faculty engaged with the program as the administrative needs of that group of faculty.Manage SP scheduling, attendance tracking, and payroll/compensation documentation in collaboration with the Director of Simulation.Maintain SP software systems, tracking performance data, evaluations, and program metrics to support continuous quality improvement.Participate in and lead quality improvement processes. Resolve and/or report SP or student issues to the Director of Simulation and the Associate Dean for Preclinical Professional Education and Experiences in accordance with institutional procedures. Communicate effectively and handle challenging or confidential matters with the utmost professionalism. Monitor and coordinate SP program budget with the Director of Simulation. Work with the Director of Simulation to develop and update policies, procedures, and processes related to the SP program. Support the development and delivery of OSCE events at the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) for establishment and evaluation of clinical and professional skills; high-stakes, multi-station OSCE or C3DO national osteopathic licensure examination events. Teaching/Training Design, implement, and evaluate SP training programs to ensure authentic case portrayal, standardized delivery (affect, history, physical cues), and consistent learner assessment.Serve as lead trainer for inter-rater reliability during high-stakes evaluations; coach or remediate SPs who deviate from scoring protocols or portrayal standards.Assist in monitoring SP performance. This includes all aspects of case portrayal, such as delivery details, affect, and physical simulation. This may involve observing videos of SPs for quality assurance purposes to ensure standardization and implement retraining. Ensure best practices are being implemented on-site in coordination with the ASPE and INACSL standards. Research and Scholarly Activity Participate as necessary in research activities in the Simulation Center.Support outcome research and evaluation of the delivery of OSCE events at the COM for establishment and evaluation of clinical and professional skills among students. Service Foster a positive, respectful and confidential culture and environment amongst the students, faculty, and KHSU Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Simulation Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises the simulated patient participants. Qualification(s) Ability to work professionally with a variety of faculty and simulated patient trainees.Bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience to be considered At least 1 year experience of supervisory responsibility. Proficiency in Microsoft office software. Preferred Qualifications Experience in simulation management platforms (e.g., CAE Learning Space, Sim Capture)Experience working with Simulated Patients.Background in performing art or theatre Background in healthcare or healthcare education Key Competencies Ability to teach, train, and coach SPs on healthcare topics, case portrayals, and feedback delivery within a medical education setting.Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a interprofessional team. Ability to exercise excellent time management and organizational skills, creative problem-solving skills with the ability to be flexible to changing scheduling demands. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 25 lbs.
