Under general supervision, installs and maintains traffic signs and pavement markings for the city.
Examples of Duties
- Fabricates, installs, and maintains signs using Traffic Cad software.
- Installs crash-worthiness bases or sign poles; replaces signs that fail the reflectometer test.
- Installs signs to state, city, and MUTCD standards; replaces graffiti-covered signs; repairs signs that have been knocked down.
- Installs and maintains pavement markings with thermal or paint machines by applying preformed thermal symbols.
- Grinds lane lines for removal or relocation; stripes fire lanes and no-parking zones.
- Maintains all city facilities parking areas; installs delineators and raised pavement markers.
- Handles special projects by installing traffic analysis equipment, collecting and downloading data for engineers.
- Surveys neighborhoods; collects vehicle and pedestrian volume counts.
- Conducts traffic monitoring functions to measure the effectiveness of traffic improvements.
Experience and Training
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; some college preferred.
- One year of experience in a construction-related field; signs and markings experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months (not to exceed 12 months, depending on testing availability).
- Possession of I.M.S.A. Signs and Markings Level I Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months (not to exceed 12 months, depending on testing availability).
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
