Sign Language Interpreter - Special Education

About the role

The Sign Language Interpreter will provide essential support to students with hearing impairments in the Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa for students during classroom instruction and meetings.
  • Ensuring clear communication between students and teachers, facilitating understanding and participation.
  • Assisting with daily activities such as note-taking, answering questions, and providing necessary accommodations.

Requirements

  • Valid certification as a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Experience in educational settings preferred.

  • Flexibility to work varying schedules including evenings and weekends.
