About the role
The Shunt Truck Driver position at Arrow Reload is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the reload facility by moving empty and loaded trailers around the yard. This role requires the ability to maneuver, park, back up, and dock trailers, operate high-capacity forklifts, load and unload various materials, and maintain the yard and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate a shunt truck to move trailers around the yard
- Use a high capacity forklift (up to 15,000 lbs) to load and unload lumber, steel, and engineered wood products from trucks, railcars, or containers
- Offload railcars using an RBT conveyor system
- Place liners in containers
- Maintain fleet equipment (wash and paint)
- Follow maintenance testing and repair procedures
- Keep the yard and equipment neat and organized
- Adhere to all workplace safety policies and comply with all rules and regulations
- Adjust daily tasks and schedules to meet changing order priorities
- Provide excellent customer service internally and externally
- Suggest improvements to working conditions and equipment usage to enhance yard operations
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager
Requirements
- Previous experience driving a shunt truck, yard truck, or fifth wheel
- Experience working in a rail yard
- Experience transloading
- Experience operating a forklift
- Experience working with computers
- Ability to maneuver, park, back up, and dock trailers
- Capacity to carry at least 50 lbs and swing a 10 lbs sledgehammer
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Flexible to work in all weather conditions
- Effective interpersonal skills for diverse working environments
- Ability to work independently and complete daily tasks according to schedule
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Attention to detail
- Physical condition to perform the job
