Short-Term Substitute for Upper School French 2026-2027

About the role

The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Short Term Upper School Modern Language French teacher for the 2026-2027 school year starting in September.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3 sections of French at varied levels in the Modern Language Department
• Create summative assessments that reflect the three modes of communication (interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive)
• Execute lessons using a wide variety of authentic materials
• Differentiate instruction in order to meet all students' needs
• Work collaboratively with department members to develop a cohesive curriculum that supports student growth at all levels
• Constructively solicit and use feedback in the classroom

Qualifications

• At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's degree preferred)
• Experience in the Modern Language Classroom
• Experience teaching several levels of French at the high school level
• Experience teaching French to Upper School-aged students (Grades 9-12)
• Command of appropriate L2 strategies
• Near-to-native or native level of proficiency in speaking and writing French and English
• Experience with content-based instruction to Upper-School-aged students
• Familiarity with ACTFL Standards and proficiency-based language teaching methodologies
• Experience in immersion-based teaching (100% target language)
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet all students' needs

Additional information
