Shop Technician

Essential Functions

  • Wiring control panels from schematic drawings (PLC chassis, vibration monitors, pushbuttons, pilot lights, power supplies, meters, HOA switches, and other components).
  • Terminating wire into devices and terminal blocks.
  • Insuring wire tags are properly installed.
  • Troubleshooting wiring problems as well as difficult component issues.
  • Correcting wiring issues in completed panels prior to shipment.
  • Assembling electrical control panels in accordance with established procedures, standards, and customer specifications while maintaining a consistent level of quality.
  • Assuring that all products completed are documented, including bill of materials, assembly instructions, test instructions, corrected schematic diagrams and all other relevant documentation.
  • Documenting revisions and audits of schematics/prints.
  • Recommending changes in design to construction in order to improve the production or quality of the product.
  • Operate and safely use various hand and power tools.
  • Assists in mechanical assembly and other tasks as needed at discretion of supervisor.

Competencies

  • Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical prints, and technical documents.
  • AC/DC circuitry, PLC, and power supply experience.
  • Knowledge of wiring, component installation on subpanels, in enclosures, and wire panels.
  • Electrical safety.
  • Knowledge of UL508a/NEC requirements a plus.
  • Experience with Switchgear (MV and LV) a plus.
  • Safe use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Basic mathematics skills.
  • Time management.

Supervisory Responsibility

The Shop Technician position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions

  • This position works near a warehouse setting, with little outdoor exposure during the workday.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard electrical equipment that involve the use of wire cutters and crimpers, screw drivers, drills, taps, knockouts, jig saws, and band saws.

  • and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Three years of control panel wiring experience required.
  • High School diploma required.
  • Technical education preferred.
