About the role
The Shop Supervisor utilizes mechanical expertise to support branch needs in a professional, safe, and timely manner. This position is responsible for training, developing, and managing heavy equipment mechanics, yard workers, and utility workers, appraising their performance, and ensuring cost-effective maintenance and repair of all rental and service equipment. The incumbent acts as a master technician and leadership role for product knowledge within the branch, representing Herc Rentals professionally with customers.
Responsibilities
- Develop consistent and regular schedules for mechanics and yard technicians to perform maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment, and machinery
- Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and propane systems
- Operate equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, generators, hydraulics, pumps, and assorted tools
- Communicate effectively and professionally with customers
- Audit and satisfy all required documentation, including timesheets, checklists, receiving records, repair orders, and maintenance logs
- Manage and order parts for equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist mechanics with duties and general service and maintenance record keeping
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Own a general mechanic’s tool set capable of supporting a heavy equipment fleet and willingness to expand personal tool collection
Skills
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to operate large, heavy machinery
- Ability to read and comprehend operating procedures, owner’s manuals, and product/warning labels
- Strong customer service skills
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer operations
- Understanding of time management and adherence to operating procedures
Pay
$82,000 - $87,000 salary + company truck
