About the role

The Shop Supervisor position utilizes mechanical expertise to support branch needs in a professional, safe, and timely manner. This role involves training, developing, and managing heavy equipment mechanics, yard workers, and utility workers, appraising their performance, and ensuring cost-effective maintenance and repair of all rental and service equipment. The incumbent acts as a master technician and leadership representative of Herc Rentals, ensuring high-quality service calls and adherence to operating standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop consistent schedules for mechanics and yard technicians to perform maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment, and machinery
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and propane systems
• Operate equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, generators, hydraulics, pumps, and assorted tools
• Communicate effectively and professionally with customers
• Audit and satisfy required documentation, including timesheets, checklists, receiving records, repair orders, and maintenance logs
• Manage and order parts for equipment
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Assist mechanics with duties and general service and maintenance record-keeping
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license
• Own a general mechanic’s tool set capable of supporting a heavy equipment fleet and willingness to expand personal tool collection

Skills

• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to operate large, heavy machinery
• Ability to read and comprehend operating procedures, owner’s manuals, and product/warning labels
• Strong customer service skills
• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Basic computer operations
• Understanding of time management and adherence to operating standards

Pay

$65,000 - $75,000 salary + vehicle
