About the role
Under general supervision, the Shop Mechanic performs a variety of skilled and technical tasks in the inspection, repair, preventive, and corrective maintenance and modification on Internal Combustion (IC) engines, natural gas and liquefied petroleum (LP) generators. Tests, replaces or adjusts engine components such as valves, pistons, bearings, emissions systems, and interprets schematic wiring and modifies control circuits. As proficiency increases, may perform more difficult assignments.
Responsibilities
- Assists and participates in routine inspections and makes modifications to natural gas engines and generators.
- Performs load testing on units to identify possible problems.
- Makes electrical and mechanical wiring modifications to control circuits.
- Rebuilds and repairs head gaskets, seals, water pumps, catalytic converters, torque heads, belts, and hoses.
- Conducts automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning properly.
- Tests batteries, fuel, coolant, and oil; ships oil samples for analysis.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required). Trade school or college program graduates in Automotive/Diesel (preferred).
- 2–5 years of relevant experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
- Willing to consent to and pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be able to pass a WorkSTEPS physical.

- Bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling.
- Frequently required to stand and reach with arms and hands.
- Occasionally required to walk and climb or balance.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs.
- Able to climb into confined spaces that may contain hazardous gas.
