About the Role

Irby Construction Company is seeking a skilled and dependable Powerline Wire Stringing/Aerial Lift Equipment Shop Mechanic to maintain, repair, inspect, and prepare specialized equipment used in overhead powerline construction and wire stringing operations. Employees must have three (2) years of experience. A valid commercial driver’s license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
• Maintain and repair tensioners, pullers, reel stands, winches, bullwheels, generators, compressors, and related equipment.
• Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using test equipment and gauges.
• Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
• Repair, adjust, and maintain specialized machinery such as spacer buggies, drilling, and cutting equipment.
• Plan work procedures using charts, technical manuals, and experience.
• Raise equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists to access mechanical units bolted to the underside of equipment.
• Remove, inspect, and replace or repair parts such as engines, transmissions, or differentials.
• Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear using calipers and thickness gauges.
• Repair or replace hydraulic pumps, valves, controllers, cylinders, and hoses, or send equipment off for repairs.
• Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
• Identify safety equipment and components/controls of specific machinery.
• Read and use operations manuals and capacity charts for equipment.
• Perform daily walk-arounds, routine and periodic checks, inspections, and maintenance of equipment.
• Perform basic operation of equipment and assist with service and maintenance schedules.
• Set up equipment, connect and disconnect trailers, and load/unload equipment and materials.
• Secure loads on trailers and adhere to all company and safety policies.
• Attend training classes as prescribed by the Training Department.
• Operate most construction equipment, booms, etc., if needed.
• Perform other duties as needed while maintaining a trustworthy and safety-minded approach.
• Spot or recognize potential danger areas and take evasive actions on your own initiative.
• Lift and handle materials up to 60 pounds unassisted.
• Walk and work across uneven terrain.
• Work in hot and cold weather conditions.
• Climb on and off large trucks and equipment.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license (required).
• Three (3) years of experience in equipment maintenance or repair.
• Commercial driver’s license (preferred).
• May be required to obtain light crane certification for boom trucks.
• Must meet OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910 requirements for operated equipment.
• Ability to attend training classes or seminars for new processes, safety regulations, or refresher training.
