Shop Mechanic

Position Overview

This position is responsible for repairs and maintains construction equipment and mechanical equipment such as trucks, trailers, batch plants, paving machines, bulldozers, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other equipment by performing the following duties.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Troubleshoots problems, making economical and durable repairs.
• Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
• Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, trucks, shops, and non-mobile equipment on an accompany-wide basis.
• Servives vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters, and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
• Ensures Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
• Repairs or replaces defective parts.
• Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
• Start devices to test their performance.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Welds broken parts and structural members.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. 3-5 years of experience in mechanics or related field
• Work Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Must be willing to work nights and weekends, when necessary. Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and productions areas as stated by OSHA.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
• Ability to work in a safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should be to work in constant exposure to the outside elements, in all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or listen.
• The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move from 35 to 50 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
• The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
