WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Keep the shop moving by assigning daily mechanic work orders, inspecting and logging equipment maintenance, reviewing mechanic timecards, coordinating parts needs, and determining when repairs require manager approval.
- Supervise general building and grounds maintenance, assist with equipment specifications, and perform mechanic duties as needed.
- Use good judgment, clear communication, and a steady leadership style to ensure the team works safely, efficiently, and fairly.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Experience with heavy-duty truck and equipment repair required.
- Supervisory experience preferred as you will lead a team of four.
- A valid Michigan Class A CDL is required; Tanker Endorsement (N) preferred.
- Possess a State-endorsed master heavy-duty truck certification, or ability to obtain if hired for this position.
- Courteous and professional communication skills along with strong documentation skills.
- Good judgment when assigning work, reviewing repairs, and addressing employee performance.
- Ability to follow applicable union contract requirements when addressing employee behavior.
- Willingness to work extended hours when needed.
- Physical ability to operate equipment, walk distances, climb ladders or steps, safely lift, push, or pull up to 80 pounds with assistance, and work in extreme temperatures/weather conditions when needed.
- Willingness to comply with random MDOT drug and alcohol testing as required by law.
