About the Role

The Shipping Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and movement of bulk and packaged product at a 24/7 fertilizer/chemical loading operation. This role works as part of a crew under the direction of a Foreman and reports operationally to the Shipping Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload rail cars and bulk/liquid trucks per shipping orders and safety procedures.
  • Operate a Trackmobile or similar equipment to spot and switch rail cars as directed.
  • Operate forklifts, payloaders, and other heavy material handling equipment.
  • Run and monitor the 50 lb bagging line, including packaging, palletizing, and stretch-wrapping product.
  • Handle urea, fertilizer, and other chemical products in accordance with HAZMAT and site safety protocols.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory documentation.
  • Follow all company, client site, and OSHA safety policies, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout.
  • Keep the work area, equipment, and loading zones clean and organized.
  • Communicate effectively with the Foreman, Shipping Supervisor, and fellow crew members to meet daily production and shipping goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Shipping Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work a rotating DuPont swing shift schedule in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug screening and background checks as required by the client site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
  • HAZMAT training/certification.
  • Prior heavy equipment operation experience (payloader, Trackmobile, skid steer, or similar).
  • Prior experience in a shipping, warehouse, rail, or industrial/chemical manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and work in and around rail cars, trucks, and bulk material handling equipment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for the full duration of the shift.

Union Representation

This is a union position represented by Laborers' Local 329. Wages, benefits, and terms of employment are governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
