About the role

Pulls and packs items for shipment in a full-time position within the Shipping Department.

Responsibilities

  • Strict adherence to the Company policy and procedure manual including state and federal laws.
  • Ensures all items on the delivery ticket are picked and packed correctly.
  • Correctly documents Lot #’s, Expiration dates, and serial numbers on the delivery ticket.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, purchase orders, or other records.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers.
  • Binds containers with tape or strapping machine when necessary.
  • Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Operates lift truck or uses a hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping & receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Participates in Improvement of Operational Performance (IOP) activities.
  • Participates in traditional and e-learning (VGM U) programs.
  • Ensures compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Works effectively with other company employees, managers, and departments.
  • Performs all job functions with Company Mission, Vision, and Goal Statements in mind.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three months industry-related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient ability and practical knowledge of computers, software, and products applicable to the industry.
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of departmental program structure (Mission, Vision, and Goal Statements) and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Effective time management skills while working independently with minimal supervision.

Skills

  • Proficient ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply complex mathematical instructions and information through analytical data collection.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills organization-wide.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to present and debate information relevant to their area of expertise with company members and on behalf of the company.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficient ability and practical knowledge of personal computer use, word processing software, spreadsheet software, accounting software, inventory software, and database software.
  • Ability to quickly and proficiently learn company-specific software programs and handheld or technology tools.
  • Proficiency and productivity in a fast-paced environment with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Good organization, time management, and communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in a standard office setting using standard office equipment.
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Manual dexterity to perform job functions.
  • Stamina to frequently sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to walk and lift and/or move up to 200 pounds.
