Responsibilities
- Direct and lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of Shipping and Receiving policies and procedures.
- Supervise, plan, direct, and schedule the daily operations and personnel of the Shipping and Receiving Department.
- Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate Shipping and Receiving employees while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the development, discipline, training, and safety performance of shipping and traffic employees.
- Schedule and coordinate shipments of finished goods using the most efficient and cost-effective transportation methods while meeting customer delivery requirements.
- Coordinate with Sales, Customer Service, Production, and Warehouse teams to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Resolve transportation, logistics, carrier, and customer service issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with transportation carriers and negotiate freight rates and transportation services as appropriate.
- Oversee completion and accuracy of bills of lading, shipping documentation, and system transactions.
- Supervise shipping personnel and dedicated truck drivers, when applicable, to ensure efficient shipment of finished goods and receipt, storage, and movement of raw materials.
- Plan and maintain warehouse layouts to maximize storage capacity while ensuring safe and efficient material flow.
- Oversee the maintenance and utilization of the leased forklift fleet and coordinate maintenance activities as needed.
- Maintain department metrics, reports, process documentation, carrier logs, training records, and other operational records.
- Monitor departmental key performance indicators, including on-time shipments, inventory accuracy, freight costs, shipping productivity, and customer service matters, and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Assist with monthly physical inventories of finished goods and raw materials and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
- Ensure proper inventory rotation, tracking, accuracy, and security of finished goods.
- Maintain overall housekeeping standards within warehouse and shipping areas.
- Compile operational data and prepare reports for plant leadership.
- Promote and support a safe work environment by adhering to all plant safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in safety initiatives, continuous improvement initiatives, and complete additional assignments and projects as needed.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in shipping, warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing operations required.
- 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment preferred.
- Experience coordinating transportation, freight carriers, warehouse operations, and inventory management.
- Experience with ERP systems is preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field required.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain forklift certification.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
- Knowledge of shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, inventory control, and transportation logistics.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing production and customer demands.
- Proficient with using computers and business software, including Microsoft Office, ERP systems, email, and internet-based applications.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and maintain consistent attendance.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the Shipping Supervisor is regularly required to communicate verbally and hear effectively. The role frequently requires:
- Standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Grasping, performing fine and gross motor movements, and reaching both forward and above head level throughout the duration of the shift.
- Working in varying temperature conditions.
- Safely operating assigned machinery.
- Regularly pushing, pulling and/or lifting up to 50 lbs.
