This role is based 100% in-office at our plant in East Hartford, CT and focuses on shipping and receiving duties associated with the production of small, precision machined components as a contract manufacturer to aerospace OEMs.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the personnel of the shipping, receiving, material handling, and packaging areas, along with a driver used for local delivery and pickups.
- Coordinate staff amongst all functional activities to meet daily/weekly departmental goals.
- Maintain a skills matrix of all employees, ensuring all departmental essential job duties are fully understood and cross-trained amongst team members.
- Maintain the work area and equipment according to 5S principles. Create standard work areas, cleaning & maintenance routines, and effective use of visual management systems.
- Utilize lean methodologies, conduct routine assessments of common work duties, implement process improvements, reduce waste, and increase efficiencies.
- Drive the daily attainment of all planned customer orders against budget.
- Create and maintain metrics that measure and monitor departmental KPIs, key activities, issues, and corrective actions. Publish routine updates to metrics on visual management boards and to the management team.
- Verify ERP fulfillment data against customer portals, ensure data integrity, and achieve daily shipment attainment.
- Escalate any issues that prevent achieving performance goals and metrics. Communicate with all internal stakeholders using action-oriented recommendations and proposed solutions.
- Supervise and inspect orders to ensure packaging matches customer requirements and carrier requirements. Correct errors on packaging or documentation if needed.
- Coordinate and organize LTL shipping and freight forwarding. Negotiate the best terms and settle freight claims if necessary.
- Create and train on standard work and processes related to shipping records, bills of lading, label requirements, commercial invoice, letters of credit, NAFTA, certificate of origin, ITAR, DFAR, export control, and other documentation needed to certify compliance with domestic and international shipments requirements.
- Ensure accurate inventory and work-in-progress (WIP) valuation through product auditing, cycle counts, and data verification.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Progressive career development holding various positions within a shipping and receiving team.
- Strong knowledge of all administrative duties and documentation needed to complete domestic and international shipments, including export/customs compliance.
- Lead teams using working knowledge of Lean Principles, 5S, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience, with a demonstrated track record of training, performance management, and motivating a team.
- Experience in aerospace component manufacturing preferred or an adjacent industry that requires a critical degree of product traceability and compliance.
- Exposure with DFAR and ITAR compliance supporting aerospace OEMs such as Collins Aerospace, GE, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, Boeing, or other similar companies is a plus.
- Highly adept with ERP systems, working within customer portals, and navigating carrier portals (UPS, FedEx). Experience with Epicor is a plus.
- Understanding of manufacturing and production environments, shipping make-to-order products, with high mix and low volume.
