About the role
Supports the Shipping Department to ensure shipments are on time.
Responsibilities
- Understand warehouse procedures and layout, including the bin location system.
- Gather materials/product from the warehouse to package/assemble for shipment or customer pick-up.
- Ensure efficient loading and unloading of all vehicles.
- Verify accuracy/receipt of loads, shippers, logs, and bills of lading.
- Assure received, picked, and shipped parts are properly identified, counts are accurate, and parts are correctly labeled.
- Receive incoming material and outside service work.
- Transact inventory for use in the manufacturing process.
- Load trucks efficiently and accurately with correct products, counts, and space utilization.
- Make decisions balancing cost and service levels related to shipping.
- Coordinate timing of staging loads, organizing trucks, and loading resources throughout the day.
- Tag and place incoming material in the proper bin locations for future use.
- Operate a forklift safely without damaging parts.
- Perform cycle counting.
- Understand both domestic and international shipping requirements.
- Coordinate and schedule shipping with various freight carriers.
- Prepare freight claims and follow up as needed.
- Prepare freight quotes to ensure cost-effective and efficient transportation.
- Communicate with customers concerning freight issues.
- Maintain shipment files, issue reports, and respond to customer inquiries.
- Provide guidance within the department for shipping and warehouse issues.
- Assist the Accounting/Finance department with billing issues relating to freight.
- Ensure freight is prepared and packed properly.
- Understand and follow company policies and procedures.
- Support continuous safety awareness and follow all safety policies, procedures, and rules.
- Utilize and practice methods for continuous improvement.
- Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) proficiently.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills using Microsoft Teams for internal collaboration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- A minimum of twelve months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and typing skills.
- Must have or be able to obtain a forklift operator’s license.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Basic math skills and effective customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of computer systems and office equipment.
Work Environment
- Regularly walks, uses hands to handle product, and reaches with arms.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Some exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Office and warehouse setting with moderate noise level.
