Responsibilities

• Resolve issues and take actions to overcome bottlenecks, equipment breakdowns, material shortages, and other delays.
• Review design memos or mold loft templates to lay out structures when planning shipfitting assignments.
• Prepare guides on priorities, work schedules, and other matters of importance not covered by existing instructions.
• Enforce safety requirements and other regulations; maintain records of workers' man-hour charges, assignments, work progress, accidents, injuries, and their causes.
• Review instructions, work assignments, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with shipfitting practices, processes, and materials.
• Create shop sketches or drawings for shipfitting work to demonstrate methods used on the job site or for employee training.
• Ensure that tools, equipment, and materials are available, properly used, stored, and maintained.
• Manage personnel tasks of subordinates, rate employee performance, approve leave requests, and control or recommend disciplinary or commendatory actions.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and chemicals). Participation in medical surveillance programs is required.
• May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
• Must review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Schedule

• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
• Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
