Responsibilities
- Help Deck Division prepare for ATG and CREWCERT.
- Walk the crew through their line handling stations, boat deck, anchor detail, and UNREP stations so they know the layout of their ship before assessments begin.
- Support Limited Training Teams (LTTs) by providing hands-on assistance during training evolutions to help the crew build proficiency before certification events.
- Conduct ship checks by walking the weather decks verifying that equipment is installed correctly and matches specifications and drawings (e.g., pelican hooks, life rings, davits, UNREP gear, helo tie-downs).
- Track equipment inventory to verify that all required deck department gear is onboard, accounted for, and in the right location.
- Bridge the gap between build specs and fleet requirements by identifying disconnects when the shipyard built something to contract but the fleet needs it configured differently, and work with SUPSHIP and PMS 339 to resolve it.
- Coordinate visits and inspections by scheduling and preparing for ATG walkdowns, ISIC visits, and other assessment events, and help the crew work through ASA checklists so they're ready when inspectors arrive.
- Research and answer deck department questions by pulling drawings and documentation to find answers about particular stations or pieces of equipment.
- Deconflict competing priorities such as shipyard work, training events, and inspections to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
- Support aviation as needed by assisting with flight deck certification prep, tie-down verification, and related tasks when requested.
