Ship Superintendent

Key Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise, and assign work to stevedoring personnel.
• Monitor vessel loading and unloading operations to ensure safety and productivity requirements are met.
• Capture cargo handling sequences and day-to-day operational activities.
• Maintain employee attendance and address personnel or operational issues as they arise.
• Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety and actively participate in safety programs.
• Cook with internal departments, customers, vessel agents, and vendors.
• Identify potential operational issues and take proactive steps to prevent delays or disruptions.
• Maintain accurate correspondence and operational documentation.
• Use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internal company systems to support daily operations.
• Provide strong leadership and direction to teams working in a fast-paced terminal environment.
• Work night and weekend shifts as required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in vessel operations, stevedoring, marine terminals, or cargo handling is preferred.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to manage and direct groups of employees.
• Excellent communication, customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Able to anticipate potential issues and follow through with solutions.
• Positive attitude with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Able to quickly learn internal computer and operational systems.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
• Able to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a TWIC card.
