Responsibilities

This role supports Operations & Facilities in providing "Best-in-Class" services so the Research & Development Team can focus on "putting science to work." The Shift Operations Manager (SOM) oversees the safe and efficient operation of a facility on a specific shift, ensuring compliance with CONOPS, TSR Controls, procedures, managing personnel, and responding to abnormal events.

  • Ensure all operations are conducted safely and in accordance with procedures, safety regulations, and DOE orders.
  • Direct and oversee shift personnel, including training, qualification, and performance management.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the facility, including monitoring work activities, authorizing changes, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Take appropriate action during abnormal events, including making notifications, mitigating consequences, and restoring the facility to a safe and stable condition.
  • Communicate with support organizations, facility representatives, and senior management regarding operational status, issues, and event notifications.
  • Identify and implement programs for personnel performance improvement and ensure accountability through performance management.
  • Ensure Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs) and Limiting Conditions for Operation (LCOs) are understood and followed by shift personnel.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as reviewing work packages, developing plans, and authoring reports.

Requires a comprehensive understanding of the facility, its systems, and relevant policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as the ability to lead, communicate, and make decisions under pressure. Troubleshooting, situation analysis, and timely decision-making are critical.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of Nuclear Facility Operations or similar regulated environment experience.
  • Relevant experience in operations, maintenance, or a technical engineering discipline.
  • Technical BS degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Conduct of Operations / Technical Safety Requirements experience.
