About the role
The Shelter Veterinarian at Animal Friends is a key member of the veterinary team responsible for providing comprehensive medical and surgical care to homeless animals in the shelter and foster programs. This role involves advocating for the animals in their care, ensuring they receive advanced, compassionate, and evidence-based veterinary treatment.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical and surgical care to shelter and foster animals
- Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices in shelter medicine and animal welfare
- Collaborate with the Shelter Medicine team, Behavior Department, Humane Investigations staff, and foster volunteers to support positive outcomes for animals
- Advocate for the needs of the animals in your care
- Ensure all procedures are performed with the highest standards of care and ethics
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA accredited school
- Current Pennsylvania State Veterinarian license
- Experience in shelter medicine and/or animal welfare preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
