About the role
The Shelter Veterinarian at Animal Friends is a critical member of the team responsible for providing high-quality medical and surgical care to homeless animals in the shelter and foster programs. This role involves advocating for animals in our care, ensuring they receive progressive, compassionate, and evidence-based veterinary treatment, and contributing to positive outcomes for animals.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical and surgical care to shelter and foster animals
- Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices in shelter medicine and animal welfare
- Collaborate with the Shelter Medicine team, Behavior Department, Humane Investigations staff, and foster volunteers to support the well-being of animals
- Advocate for animals in our care and ensure they receive compassionate and evidence-based treatment
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities related to shelter medicine and animal welfare
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA accredited institution
- Current Pennsylvania State Veterinarian license
- Experience in shelter medicine and/or animal welfare preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the mission of Animal Friends
