About the role

The Shelter Veterinarian plays a vital role in shaping the future of Rochester Animal Services, a municipally operated shelter serving the City of Rochester. This unique opportunity offers the ability to make a direct and lasting impact on animal welfare while practicing meaningful shelter medicine with a high degree of professional autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement medical procedures, treatment plans, disease prevention strategies, sanitation protocols, and vaccination programs.
• Drive positive outcomes and influence medical protocols.
• Lead continued growth and transformation within the organization.
• Collaborate with a team of Licensed Veterinary Technicians and animal care staff to provide comprehensive care.
• Utilize a full-service surgical suite, digital radiology, blood analyzers, and hematology equipment to support efficient, high-quality care.
• Influence the care and wellbeing of every animal entering the shelter.

Requirements

• A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA accredited institution.
• Current license to practice veterinary medicine in New York State.
• Experience in shelter medicine and/or animal welfare.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
