Sheet Metal Technician - 1258

Full Time On-Site position in Cahokia Heights, IL, USA.

About the role

As a Sheet Metal Technician at West Star, each day will bring new experiences and opportunities for growth. You will need a basic to advanced knowledge of turbine aircraft structures, reading blueprints, working from drawings, fastening systems, procedures, and techniques. You may also be required to help supervise crews and assist in organizing manpower and setting priorities for involved projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and associated components.
• Application and removal of sealant, sound deadening, and finish materials.
• Maintenance, cleaning, and repair of shop facilities, equipment, and tooling when required.
• Use basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
• Any other job-related duties assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal but not mandatory.
• Prior experience working with sheet metal is preferred.
• Self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints.
• Attend work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments.
• Notify supervisor in advance if unable to work.
• Reliable transportation to get to work each day.
• Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
• Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
• Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements

• Lift 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
• Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
• Climb ladders and stairs; work in small, restricted areas.
• Stand for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

• Understand and implement regulations and guidelines.
• Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.
• Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

• Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader.
• May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.
• Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

• Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
• Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
• Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices.
• Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $22-$38. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if assigned to an alternate shift. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
