Sheet Metal Laser Programmer
About the role
Schebler Company is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Laser Programmer to join our sheet metal fabrication team. The Laser Programmer will be responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC laser cutting programs to support the efficient production of high-quality sheet metal components. This role works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure accurate programming, effective material utilization, and on-time delivery of customer orders.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify CNC laser programs from engineering drawings and CAD files.
- Develop nests to maximize material utilization and reduce waste.
- Program and support fiber laser cutting equipment.
- Review drawings, specifications, and work orders for accuracy and manufacturability.
- Troubleshoot programming and machine-related issues to improve production efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering and production personnel on new products and process improvements.
- Maintain program revisions and documentation.
- Support first-run part verification to ensure quality and dimensional requirements are met.
- Monitor production performance and recommend process improvements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety and quality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience programming CNC laser cutting equipment in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM and nesting software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively with engineering, production, quality, and other team members.
- Able to train on 1st shift and transition to 2nd shift upon completion of training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Trumpf, Cincinnati, Mazak, or similar laser systems.
- Knowledge of press brake operations and downstream fabrication processes.
- Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, TruTops, or similar programming software.
- Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
