About the role

The primary role of the Shaft Surveyor is to provide the necessary survey control for the construction and development of all facilities, infrastructure, and excavations, both on the surface and underground, and update all as-built drawings within this area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
  • Keep work areas safe and free of hazards; perform Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure all systems and procedures are in place for safe, productive, and high-quality work.
  • Follow proper procedures to ensure safety and control equipment damage.
  • Install and maintain control points for all project construction, including surface facilities and services, and underground shaft, services, and infrastructure.
  • Provide updated as-built and planning drawings to required parties as needed.
  • Liaise with project supervision and management, contractors, and clients to coordinate daily survey requirements.
  • Track all necessary engineering and construction data and deliver reports at regular intervals.
  • Provide support to the project management team and construction crews on a regular basis.
  • Receive daily survey requirements from supervisor.
  • Supervise testing to ensure quality of product (e.g., shotcrete testing, pull-tests, concrete sampling, bolt counts).
  • Ensure drawings and mine planning requested by the Engineering Manager are timely and accurate.
  • Complete tasks, assignments, or requests from the Engineering Manager.
  • Operate a company vehicle if required, possessing a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding Redpath and client information.
  • Work in excess of 40 hours a week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
  • Assist other job functions as required.

Requirements

  • Mining/Survey/Engineering Technician Diploma (2 years or greater) or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in underground operating mine sites is preferred.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Amine, or alternate drafting/mining software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely use and handle a variety of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil, structural, and rock excavation work).
  • Previous surveying experience is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD is an asset.
  • MSHA Underground Miner training and underground mining experience are assets, as is knowledge of applicable mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.
  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions to perform duties safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening, and physical.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
