About the Role
The Shaft Line Operator will work within an automated cell to maintain production, perform machine maintenance, and ensure quality objectives are met. This role reports to the Manufacturing Manager and involves operating machinery, inspecting products, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Maintain production on all machinery within the automated cell to meet department performance and quality objectives.
- Perform basic tool changeovers, tool offsets, and machine maintenance.
- Chamfer and load raw material onto bar feeders.
- Rework non-conforming product as necessary.
- Assist in packaging and handling finished product and raw materials.
- Perform Material Handler duties when possible.
- Report problems within the automated cell to the supervisor.
- Discontinue production and notify supervisor if the process does not meet specifications or is suspected to be nonconforming.
- Identify, record, and control issues related to product, process, or management system.
- Prevent further processing, delivery, or installation of non-conforming product until deficiencies are corrected.
- Initiate actions to prevent non-conformity or costly downtime.
- Recommend or provide solutions through designated channels and verify their implementation.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Report Continuous Improvement recommendations to supervisors or management.
- Follow all written procedures, work instructions, and quality plans.
- Conform to all Quality and Safety requirements and procedures.
- Participate in the Continuous Improvement Process.
- Perform additional duties as requested or deemed appropriate.
Requirements
You must be able to perform the following duties within specified timeframes:
- Within 30 Days:
- Operate machinery efficiently.
- Perform machine tool offsets.
- Report serious problems to the supervisor.
- Accurately use and understand basic inspection tools.
- Perform machine maintenance.
- Understand work instructions and quality plans for the process.
- Within 60 Days:
- Perform all 30-day requirements.
- Make tooling changes.
- Inspect finished product for quality defects.
- Know and understand all nonconformance and specifications.
- Within 90 Days:
- Understand all processes involved with the position.
Qualifications
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Cooperative attitude and ability to work effectively with others.
- Acceptable attendance record.
- Ability to move quickly between machines and make necessary adjustments.
- Ability to accurately fill out paperwork.
- Ability to read and understand prints/drawings.
- Ability to operate a fork truck and motorized crane.
- Ability to accurately read inspection equipment.
- Proficiency in using basic inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
