About the role

As the Safety Supervisor, you will implement and execute the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) plan, providing SH&E support for FMI Safford Mine, Morenci Mine, Sulphur Transportation Operation, and meeting site-specific SH&E strategy requirements.

Location: Safford, AZ. This is a full-time position with a schedule that may vary based on operational needs. Travel expectations are less than 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Operation Manager and Supervisors to implement all safety-related portions of Savage’s S7 System.
  • Develop and deliver procedural and regulatory training, track and report training completion, and schedule as needed.
  • Support execution of customer’s operating requirements, specifically MSHA requirements.
  • Establish a proactive SH&E process toward incident prevention.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements (OSHA, MSHA, FRA, DOT, EPA).
  • Ensure Team Members follow proper safety rules, procedures, and processes.
  • Interface with key customer SH&E and operations contacts to implement customer-driven programs or emphasis areas, including regular involvement with the Mine’s Contractor Safety Team.
  • Steward the Lead Safety Specialist and Safety Specialist program for Safford Transportation and Transloading Operations.
  • Ensure incidents are properly reported to internal and external parties.
  • Lead Savage team on internal and customer safety audits.
  • Lead the root cause investigation process to completion, ensuring sustainable corrective actions are implemented to avoid repeat events.
  • Routinely spend time in the field with front-line Team Members and observe field activities.
  • Track leading indicators to address trends at the Safford Maintenance Office, Morenci Mine, and Safford Mine.
  • Support Operations Leaders during incidents by responding as needed and completing Hazard Assessments before Non-Routine tasks involving Savage Team Members.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of safety regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT.
  • Experience in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to analyze situations and data to make sound decisions.
  • Training experience preferred.
  • Computer skills (MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken), organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Impeccable character, detail-oriented, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Sets the standard for safety, professionalism, and performance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills—good listener and communicator, both written and oral.
  • Responds well to high-pressure situations and demonstrates an “Ownership” spirit.
  • Treats people fairly, with dignity and respect, and embraces and teaches company culture.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or a related field is preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in Transportation or Mine Operations.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in an industrial setting with Transportation Equipment or Mines.
  • Hold a safety certification recognized by an accredited organization (e.g., ASP, SMS, OHST, CET) or be able to obtain certification within the first 12 months.

Physical Requirements

  • 10% travel required.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders or stairs.
  • Ability to work at waist level or below.
  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment, as well as outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Willingness to always wear appropriate PPE when needed and set an example.
