About the role

Sessional Lecturer I position for the Winter 2027 term (January – April). This is a completely asynchronous online course with an estimated enrolment of 70–100 students.

APS1001H: Project Management

Project management has evolved from being an accidental job title into being a chosen profession with career paths and a body of knowledge. This course covers most of the knowledge areas of the Project Management Institute: integration, scope, cost, time, risk, human resources, procurement and communications management. We take a practical, applied approach, with the “PMBOK Guide” textbook, in-class exercises, and a team paper on “lessons learned” from an actual project.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures for online delivery
  • Prepare midterm quiz and final quiz
  • Attend Q and A sessions and answer student questions
  • Oversee project updates and marking (with teaching assistants, if applicable)

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of project management experience leading engineering projects
  • PMP certification
  • Experience using Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching the following concepts:
    • Integration Management
    • Stakeholder Management
    • Scope Management
    • Time Management
    • Cost Management
    • Communications Management
    • Procurement Management
    • Risk Management
    • Human Resource Management
  • Skills in teaching students techniques that increase value to organizations and the marketplace
  • Strong record of presenting lectures and ability to translate this skill into an online format
  • Ability to administer an online course effectively and explain concepts clearly
  • Must have taught APS1001 or a similar project management course

Pay

Minimum level of pay is $9,997 (Sessional Lecturer I), which includes vacation pay, and may increase depending on the applicant’s level of experience and suitability for the position.
