Course Information

Course: PLA1106H1F: Workshop in Planning Practice
Course Description: Students are expected to apply the insights, skills and techniques acquired during the first year of study to a number of case studies and assignments drawn from different planning contexts.

Duties

  • Lectures on planning practice.
  • Identifying appropriate client advisors and projects and working with clients to develop projects.
  • Preparing course outline, syllabi and lectures;
  • Marking course assignments;
  • Obtaining approval for course ethics protocol;
  • Renting meetings with clients;
  • Organizing and attending student presentations;
  • Holding regular office hours.

  • Class Schedule: Tuesdays, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Delivery Mode: In-Person
  • Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026
  • Salary Category: 0.25 FCE (Sep–Dec 2026)
  • Sessional Lecturer I: $4,998.74 (includes 4% vacation pay)
  • Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $5,349.61 (includes 6% vacation pay)
  • Sessional Lecturer II: $5,349.61 (includes 6% vacation pay)
  • Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term: $5,476.98 (includes 6% vacation pay)
  • Sessional Lecturer III: $5,476.98 (includes 6% vacation pay)
  • Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term: $5,614.45 (includes 6% vacation pay)

Qualifications

  • A graduate-level professional degree in planning is required, as well as a minimum of five years of professional planning experience in the public or private sectors.
  • Candidates must also possess suitable background knowledge of, and considerable experience dealing with, core planning activities such as land use planning, urban design, community consultation, community development, cultural planning, and sustainability.
  • Previous university-level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching workshop courses preferred.
  • Professional planning designation preferred (e.g. RPP).
