Sessional Lecturer - AFR351Y - African Systems of Thought

Description

The African Studies Centre seeks a Sessional Lecturer from January 1, 2027 – April 30, 2027 to teach the second half of a full year course in the fall semester:

• AFR351Y – African Systems of Thought
• The exploration of a range of African cosmologies, epistemologies, and theologies, as well as specific case studies on justice, the moral order, and gender relations. The influence of these richly diverse traditions is traced as well in the writings of African thinkers in the Diaspora.

Class Schedule: Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Please note that the delivery mode for this course is currently in person. In keeping with current circumstances, the delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.

• Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term - $10,699.21
• Sessional Lecturer II - $10,699.21
• Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term - $10,953.96
• Sessional Lecturer III - $10,953.96
• Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term - $11,228.90

Minimum Qualifications

• Completed Ph.D. in African Studies, Education, African Indigenous Studies, Philosophy, or Decolonial Studies and related disciplines.
• A scholarly background in African Studies and relevant areas required.
• Teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.

Responsibilities

Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.

This course will be taught in-person.

Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.
