About the role
The City of Cape Coral seeks a Service Worker III to join our team. This position operates simple to moderately complex equipment and performs various tasks related to parks and recreation, public works, and utilities.
Responsibilities
- Operates simple to moderately complex equipment, including tractors, power brooms, mowers, trucks, forklifts, back hoes, jack hammers, or augers.
- Prepares assigned equipment for daily work orders by inspecting prior to and after use and performing regular maintenance and minor repair as directed.
- Ensures the safe loading, unloading and operating condition of equipment through daily safety inspections for defects, malfunctioning, or otherwise substandard conditions. Identifies and takes corrective action or advises supervisor.
- Performs pre-trip inspection of vehicle, notifying supervisor and/or Fleet of concerns or maintenance needed.
- Participates in establishing traffic control devices such as signs, barricades, and cones.
- Utilizes various manual, gas and handheld electrical tools and equipment in the performance of assigned tasks.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED.
- If assigned to Parks & Recreation, performing grounds maintenance: Two (2) years of experience in professional lawn or grounds maintenance.
- If assigned to Park & Recreation or Public Works performing equipment operation: Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled manual labor and operation of associated light equipment.
- If assigned to Utilities: Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair of utilities infrastructure associated with water production, water reclamation, or utilities collection and distribution systems.
Licenses or Certifications
- A valid Florida CDL B driver’s license is required at time of application.
