MTD Services, Inc., located in White Marsh, MD, serves the greater Baltimore-Washington area. Our Service Division is dedicated to repairing and maintaining equipment at automotive repair facilities, dealerships, service stations, and various commercial properties.
Job Summary
As a Service Technician, you will maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair a diverse range of automotive shop equipment, including automotive lifts, air compressors, exhaust removal systems, air piping, wheel service equipment, lubrication systems, and more. Knowledge & Training Candidates should have prior experience relevant to the job summary. You will gain specialized knowledge of MTD-serviced equipment through hands-on, on-the-job training. A strong mechanical aptitude and the general skills listed below are required.
Tasks, Duties, And Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled repairs and maintenance on customer-owned equipment.
- Complete assigned daily tasks efficiently.
- Keep the shop service area clean and organized.
- Ensure customer worksites are left neat and professional.
- Use provided tools and equipment responsibly.
- Supply your own basic mechanic tools.
- Submit written parts requests to the appropriate department.
- Accurately document hours worked per work order.
- Log hours using a company-provided cell phone and mandatory GPS-enabled time-tracking app.
- Greet customers cheerfully in person and over the phone.
- Address customer inquiries about equipment and repairs.
- Report potential customer issues or complaints to managers promptly.
- Provide customers with guidance on equipment operation and maintenance.
- Share technical expertise with coworkers as needed.
- Complete all paperwork legibly, thoroughly, and on time.
- Maintain positive relationships with coworkers and management.
- Plan efficient travel routes and navigate independently or with a team to job sites.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
- 2–4 years of related experience and/or training.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to obtain a DOT medical card.
- Must pass a drug screen.
General Skills
- Proficiency in the safe and skilled use of: Hand tools (e.g., mechanic, carpentry, painting tools). Power tools (e.g., battery-operated, electric, pneumatic). Measuring and testing instruments (e.g., tape measure, level, multi-meter). Ladders and scaffolding (e.g., step, extension, rolling). Small engine equipment (e.g., concrete saw, air compressor).
Operational Skills (Desired)
- Experience with: Forklift. Scissor lift.
Language Skills
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and procedure documents.
- Write routine reports and correspondence clearly and legibly.
- Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and associates.
Mathematical Skills
- Apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
- Take and record precise measurements accurately.
- Calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume correctly.
Reasoning Skills
- Solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Impert instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Use a company-provided smartphone effectively for time tracking and email.
On-the-Job Learning & Transportation
- During Training: Provide your own transportation to our shop; we supply transportation to and from job sites.
- Post-Training: Qualified technicians receive a take-home company vehicle for business use only.
- You may be required to respond to emergency service calls after hours, on weekends, or holidays.
