Service Technician - Professional

Responsibilities

  • Perform prescribed, routine maintenance on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
  • Apply system knowledge to match customer needs with sales opportunities and complete rapid, accurate diagnoses.
  • Manage truck inventory: order, receive, bill out, and maintain parts with minimal waste.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle according to company guidelines, including cleanliness and timely maintenance.
  • Complete necessary documents and electronic communications thoroughly, accurately, and professionally using a hand-held device.
  • Utilize tools and techniques such as mirrors, flashlights, PVC drain pipe installation, case setting/trimming, glass door installation/adjustment, temperature sensors, brazing, soldering, and determining coil layouts.
  • Accurately identify pipe sizes and fittings, perform refrigerant and oil conversions, test oil, and electric weld various metals and joint types.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correctly size thermostatic expansion valves; understand pressure regulators, refrigerant flow controls, TEV troubleshooting/replacement, and complex schematic diagrams.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of low/high pressure oil systems, split condensing/low ambient controls, refrigerated equipment startup, EMS controls, CO2 refrigeration, retail store refrigeration startup, airflow characteristics, motor VFDs, defrost types, recovery setup, torch setup, compressor parameters, system layouts, and advanced wiring diagrams.
  • Work with gauges, scales, recovery equipment, ECM, shaded pole, PSC, three-phase motors, compressor parameters, oil differential pressure valves, and oil level controls.
  • Detect and repair leaks on conventional systems and parallel racks; solder copper-to-brass and copper-to-steel; diagnose and replace compressors; troubleshoot complex service calls; check/adjust oil management systems and compressor oil level controls.
  • Mentor other technicians and lead HVAC/R preventive maintenance programs.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (HVAC-R Technical School Degree preferred).
  • 7 years of field experience or 5 years with certification from a Technical School (external candidates).
  • 3 years as a Certified Technician with completion of OJT & Skills Assessment (internal candidates).
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record per Fleet Policy.
  • Physical ability to walk distances, bench, crouch, climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift/carry up to fifty pounds repetitively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; detail-oriented and highly motivated.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including basic maintenance tasks and hand tool use.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
  • Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and/or commercial refrigeration/HVAC preferred.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Strong leadership, business acumen, decision-making, and paperwork skills.

Pay

The salary range is $28.59–$47.66 per hour, varying by knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage will be the greater of the posted range or local minimum wage.
