About the role

The Service Mobile Technician is responsible for diagnosing and completing repairs on heavy and medium-duty trucks, working primarily from a service mobile unit. This role requires significant expertise and independent work time, with a strong emphasis on safety while working on units and driving vehicles. All work must be conducted in a secure and safe environment, not roadside.

Responsibilities

  • Perform recommended routine maintenance procedures.
  • Diagnose issues, failures, and performance problems using diagnostic tests.
  • Determine a course of action for damaged parts and systems.
  • Use computerized equipment and specialized tooling for repairs.
  • Complete assigned repairs and tasks in a timely and safe manner.
  • Accurately record time, cause, and correction on Repair Orders.
  • Test components by driving trucks before and after repairs.
  • Participate in and complete technical training and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and Repair Order Processing Software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicles; safe driving record required.
  • FMCSA medical certificate required for the mobile technician position.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility: Capable of moving around the workshop or service area, including walking, standing, bending, and working in confined spaces or under vehicles. Ability to climb ladders and perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Vision: Good eyesight and visual acuity for inspecting and troubleshooting engine components, reading technical manuals, and performing precision work.
  • Hearing: Good hearing to diagnose engine sounds, communicate effectively, and be aware of audible warnings or signals in a moderate to loud work environment.
  • Manual Dexterity: High level of manual dexterity to handle tools, components, and equipment with precision.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift a minimum of 60–150 lbs unassisted, following proper lifting techniques to prevent injury.

Schedule

Heavy-duty diesel technicians may work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and potentially on-call or emergency repair shifts, as maintenance and repairs are often required outside of regular business hours.
